Brush your way to crepe-free skin: The benefits of dry brushing

Hey there, fabulous readers! Let’s talk about a little beauty secret that's been buzzing around lately: dry brushing. Nope, it's not a new dance move or a fancy art technique. Dry brushing is actually a super simple skincare routine that I have been practicing for years, but here lately, I’ve upped my dry brushing game, thanks to my favorite friend, menopause.

First things first, what exactly is dry brushing? Well, it's exactly what it sounds like: brushing your skin while it's dry. You use a special dry brush with firm bristles, then gently brush your skin in upward motions, starting from your feet and moving towards your heart. It's like giving yourself a mini massage, but with a brush!

The perks? One of the biggest benefits of dry brushing is exfoliation. Dry brushing helps to slough away dead skin cells, leaving your skin smoother and softer than ever. It also stimulates your lymphatic system, which is like your body's own personal detox system. By gently brushing your skin, you can help your lymph nodes to drain toxins more effectively, leaving you feeling energized and refreshed. It's like hitting the reset button for your body!

And let's not forget about the circulation boost. Dry brushing promotes better blood flow, which can help reduce the appearance of cellulite (really!) and even improve the overall tone and texture of your skin.

As I mentioned, I have been dry brushing for years, usually 2 or 3 times per month when my skin felt dry. But when menopause came to visit, my skin changed and it was drier than ever. I started dry brushing 3 or 4 times per week, following that up with a deep moisturizer. Goodbye, crepey skin!

When my doctor put me on hormone replacement therapy (testosterone is your friend, ladies!), I suddenly got back and body acne. So NOT ideal, going into swimsuit/shorts season... Guess what helped? DRY BRUSHING!

So here’s how I dry brush:

Before a shower or bath, I dry brush my skin, toes to shoulders, in circular motions toward my heart. Then shower (or bathe) to rinse off the dead skin. After drying off, while my skin is slightly damp, I spray my body with Avva Rose Hyaluronic Spray (this is going to lock in my moisturizer), and then once my skin is completely dry, moisturize with Avva Rose Neck & Body Butter.

So there you have it, gals - the joys of dry brushing! It's a simple, affordable way to pamper yourself and give your skin some much-needed TLC. And if you are “menopause crunchy” like I was, this practice will change your skin in ways you can’t imagine. Happy brushing!
